CILIUM takes its name from the ciliary muscle—the key structure in the eye that enables us to focus. Without this muscle, our vision would be static and blurred. We wouldn’t be able to shift focus, to adapt.

At Studio Hendro Hadinata, we believe that every design we create should proudly elevate local materials and coloring techniques—supporting Indonesia’s sustainability movement and design identity. CILIUM is handcrafted from cylindrical segments of natural rattan, its spherical form built through layered stacking and bound with wool threads.

These materials are intentionally composed to create a dual experience: from a distance, viewers can perceive the layered texture of the rattan—a “zoomed-out” view; up close, the intricate detailing of the wool threads reveals itself—a “zoomed-in” perspective within the store environment.

CILIUM is more than a form—it is a part of the “eye” that reflects a vision of design in Indonesia.

In this project, Studio Hendro Hadinata collaborates with Gondojules, a Jakarta-based interior architecture and design studio known for its work on restaurants, retail spaces, private homes, high-end apartments, and boutique hotels.

This opportunity is to create a holistic centerpiece for Project Soul, a handcrafted eyewear brand that offers premium quality at a fair price, aiming to empower individuals and give them the confidence to tell their stories proudly from Jakarta.
